Sand dollars are some of the most popular shells collected, but not many know the origin of these beautiful and mysterious shells that wash ashore. During my time in a microscopic research lab, I helped create different feeding environments for the larvae of sand dollars. Every time I looked under the microscope, I had to stop myself from laughing to myself, how on earth do these strange little spaceships become the popular sand dollar?

Before my time illustration for the CSULB Shark Lab, they were using a salmon shark pulled from Google Images, we happily changed that.
